Baby Life Rescue
For those of you new to Vision Ministries – Baby Life Rescue Centre (B.L.R.C.) is a charitable organisation in Mombasa caring for babies and children (under 3 years) who have been abandoned, discarded – thrown in skips, down latrines or just left at birth in hospitals. Their work is varied and extremely rewarding as they work to find foster and adoptive homes for their charges. The babies are brought to them through Social Service/Children’s dept., yet with no government help these people live lives of faith, trusting God for food and medical requirements for the babies in their care.
When a placement is found for a child Peter and Selpher, the founders, follow up to make sure the child is settled in his/her new environment.
The grandparents of this little girl were given custody of her after her mother (who has mental health problems) had tried to sell her for just 20/- (16p). It was a delight to visit her and the family at their rural farm and see how well she is developing. Her mother is now under medication and progressing well but the child will remain in the custody of her grandparents.
In some places and situations it is not just nappies that are disposable, it is the babies too. Fighting for life the moment they are born, cast off like some waste product, thrown into skips, down latrines or left at the side of the road. It sounds like something out of a horror movie – but this is reality for some tiny infants. Vision Ministries help a Mombasa based organisation care for those that society rejects.
