What a year! – How exciting it has been. Vision Children’s Home is a testimony to God ‘s amazing goodness and faithfulness and what a privilege it is to be a part of the work here.

It has been so wonderful to watch the build progress and we are so pleased to have been able to build and present such a fabulous home for some amazing children.

Profile of one of those children: A young boy – with mum, dad and two siblings. The father began drinking and spending time with other women – eventually he became infected with the HIV virus. After some time he died, but not before infecting his wife.

With nowhere to live and now HIV positive, she spent her time with her children, roaming the forest living rough and eating what food could be found. Within a short while she too died, under a bush, with her children by her side.

The children were taken in by an uncle but he was not able to keep them for long – the youngest two were sent to a children’s home – eventually the eldest boy was brought to Vision Children’s Home.

It has been a hard struggle for him, but we thank God and are pleased to say he is doing really well. It would be wonderful to re unite the children – currently under investigation – let’s hope and pray it will be possible.

We celebrated with the ‘hand over’ ceremony on 25th August – a great time was had by everyone who attended, it was really hard to close the gates afterwards – nobody wanted to leave.
Vision Children’s Home is not owned nor will it be run by Vision Ministries (though we will still be around to help when & where necessary and when we are able). Helping people to help themselves must always be one of our main objectives. It is vitally important that ownership be taken by those for whom it was intended – the Kenyan people. We are blessed to have people with integrity to run the home and take it forward.

I cannot explain the peace that rests in the compound – it is a little bit of heaven here on earth.

As I write we are awaiting connection to electricity services by Kenya Power (hopefully we will be ‘switched on’ within the coming week); then we will be able to transfer the children from their temporary dwelling and welcome them to their new home.

The end of September should see completion of the well. Weeks of digging, by hand, through hard coral to a depth of 90’, but Whesa and his team constantly have a smile on their faces and thoroughly enjoy the work! Bless them – it will be wonderful for the home to have it’s own fresh water on tap.

It might be the end of the build – but it is just the start of a new and exciting future for the beautiful new residents and of course the team who will be loving and caring for them; we thank you for your continued support and prayers.
